SECAUCUS, N.J. — The Secaucus Police Department held its annual blessing ceremony for its police and fire marine fleets on Saturday, a tradition rooted in longstanding Coast Guard customs.
Father Christopher led the ceremony, which was attended by members of the public and representatives from the Scouts of America, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Secaucus Fire Department.
Officials described the event as a time-honored tradition meant to ensure the safety and readiness of the marine units.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Father Christopher and all attendees of the annual blessing ceremony,” the department said in a statement.
The ceremony is held each year to mark the beginning of the summer boating and rescue season in Secaucus.
