TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A power outage affected the northern beach sections of Toms River on Saturday night, prompting a response from Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) and local authorities.
The Toms River Police Department confirmed in a statement that both the department and JCP&L are aware of the outage and that repair crews are being dispatched. “JCP&L is working diligently to fix the problem,” the department said in a post shared late Saturday.
The outage’s cause has not yet been disclosed, and no estimated time of restoration has been provided.
The affected area includes residential neighborhoods along the northern barrier island section of the township, a coastal zone prone to seasonal infrastructure challenges.
Past criticism over response times resurfaces
Mayor Daniel Rodrick, who has previously criticized JCP&L’s performance had voiced public frustration over what he described as slow responses to extended outages in Toms River’s coastal areas last summer.
JCP&L has not released an official statement as of Sunday morning but confirmed that crews have been notified and are being sent to address the outage.
