Seaside Heights police respond to reported armed threat on Hamilton Avenue, no weapon found

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — Police in Seaside Heights responded Tuesday night to a reported threat involving a firearm at a Hamilton Avenue residence, but no weapon was ultimately found at the scene.

The incident began after midnight., when a 911 call was placed for 328 Hamilton Avenue.

A caller stated someone had a gun and made threats against police. Officers responded to the scene, treating the situation as potentially armed and dangerous.

Responding officers coordinated on arrival and approached the location cautiously. A woman later identified as the caller reportedly kept an open phone line, allowing police to hear background activity. She told officers that the person who allegedly made the threat had already left the residence.

Police on scene identified a person of interest who was reportedly accompanied by several unidentified males. Officers described the group as including one Black female and three Black males, one wearing a ski mask, seen walking north on Hamilton Avenue.

No weapons wer found when police confronted the group.

Police detained and questioned individuals matching the description given. Radio traffic confirmed the group was seen leaving the residence, but after a field investigation, officers determined they were not involved.

The incident is being treated as a possible swatting or false report, though officials have not confirmed whether charges will be filed in connection with the original call.
