JERSEY CITY, NJ — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in Jersey City.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit announced that 28-year-old Gerard Rosario of Jersey City is facing multiple charges, including murder, after a May 3 shooting left a 39-year-old man dead.

Shortly after 4 p.m. that day, Jersey City Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash at Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street. Officers found an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat of a car that had collided with a tree. The victim, later identified as Devon Reid of Elizabeth, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Reid was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:16 p.m., according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Charges filed and public assistance requested

Rosario is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess a firearm. He remains at large and is considered dangerous.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez urged anyone with information to contact the office at 201-915-1345 or submit an anonymous tip at hcpo.org/tips. “All information will be kept confidential,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

Authorities have released a photo of Rosario but caution that he should not be approached under any circumstances.
