NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are searching for a driver who twice struck a man with a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident early Friday morning, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Victim hit, then struck again
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the suspect drove a silver Ford Taurus with New Jersey plates (L70RGX) onto the curb of Grove Street between Grain Street and Central Avenue, striking a male pedestrian. The driver then reversed the vehicle, hitting the victim a second time before fleeing eastbound on Central Avenue.
Surveillance and witness aid investigation
Surveillance cameras captured the suspect’s vehicle traveling eastbound on West Market Street shortly after the hit-and-run. An off-duty Newark police officer witnessed the scene and assisted the injured victim, who was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Call for public assistance
Authorities are urging the public to help identify the suspect and locate the vehicle involved. “Anyone with information is urged to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS,” officials said in a statement. All tips are confidential and may lead to a reward.
