Cherry Hill fire officials warn of smoke from brush fires, urge residents to follow statewide fire ban

CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is actively working to contain several brush fires across Camden and Burlington Counties, according to the Cherry Hill Fire Department. Residents in Cherry Hill and surrounding areas are experiencing smoke and the smell of burning as firefighters continue efforts to fully extinguish the fires, which may take several more days.

Due to ongoing drought conditions, a statewide fire ban is in effect across New Jersey, prohibiting all outdoor fires on both public lands and private properties. Fire officials are urging residents to adhere to fire safety measures to help prevent additional wildfires.

Recommended precautions include not discarding cigarettes or matches on the ground, fully dousing ashes from indoor fireplaces, avoiding parking on dry vegetation, being cautious with yard tools that could spark, and keeping matches and lighters away from children. The Cherry Hill Fire Department emphasized the importance of community cooperation in reducing wildfire risks during the dry spell.
